Will our military attempt a coup?

mattisSerious people are asking. "A number of President Trump's most implacable critics are fantasizing about deploying the U.S. military to remove him from the White House on Jan. 20, 2021, based on their assumption that a.) he will lose the election, and b.) he will refuse to leave office on his own," Byron York writes. Among those thinking about it are two reitred Army officers, Paul Yingling and John Nagl, who published an open letter to Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, arguing that Trump may have to be forceably removed from the White House if he loses the election. Where do they get such fantasies? Sleep Joe, for one. “I promise you, I’m absolutely convinced they [the military] will escort him from the White House with great dispatch.” This may well be why President Trump promoted several loyalists to top roles in the Defense Department this week after resignations following the unceremonious ouster of Defense Secretary Mark Esper.

Trump announced Monday that he had fired Esper as defense secretary and said Christopher Miller, who headed the counterterrorism center, would serve as acting secretary.

The Pentagon confirmed the resignations of the department's top officials for policy and intelligence in a statement. The resignations include those of James Anderson, the acting undersecretary for policy; Joseph Kernan, the undersecretary for intelligence; and Jen Stewart, Esper's chief of staff.

Those personnel changes weren't random. Kash Patel, who will be Miller's chief of staff, knows the details of the ‘spygate’ saga. Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, recently told National Public Radio that the military plays no role in politics, and that he has complete trust in America's institutions to manage election disputes. Sure, but why did NPR ask him in the first place? This from the NPR article, stated as fact:

President Trump has suggested that he might not accept the results if he is not declared the winner. He has made baseless claims about voter fraud being widespread. Voter fraud is actually extremely rare.

And then we have General Mad Dog Mattis, who, according to Bob Woodward's new book did this:

Mattis quietly went to Washington National Cathedral to pray about his concern for the nation’s fate under Trump’s command and, according to Woodward, told Coats, “There may come a time when we have to take collective action” since Trump is “dangerous. He’s unfit.”

Trump is disrupting their big plans for foreign wars, and they don't like it. They also don't like him.
