They say these EVs are environmentally friendly, but everyone knows they're not. Their electricity will be generated by coal and natural gas. And making the batteries requires massive mining in the Third World.
So what motivates the advocates?
Turns out that EVs don't go very far, and for the activists that's a feature not a bug. They only go half as far as a gasoline car. In other words, the government can restrict you to certain geographical areas. Leftists are talking about the 15-minute city as a way to save the planet. The World Economic Forum is pushing for “battery passports” to be fitted to electric vehicles to track the driver’s impact on “climate change.” A government agency in Germany has announced a new scheme that will see power suppliers able to remotely limit home heating and electric car charging.
Moreover: Hidden in the massive spending bill is a requirement starting in 2026 that all cars must have a “safety device” to prevent drunk driving. The device is a remote kill switch that could allow the government, the police, and the car maker to disable your car from the comfort of their offices.
A recent article in The Daily Mail summed it up thusly:
- Once governments are able to control cars, they will demand the power to do so
- Electric cars can be limited, monitored, controlled and switched off remotely
- Restrictions will be made for our health, safety and to reduce carbon emissions
- We will no longer be able to choose where we go, how fast, or when we drive
- This will take the freedom and fun out of driving, and change car ownership
