The people will live on.
The learning and blundering people will live on.
They will be tricked and sold and again sold
And go back to the nourishing earth for rootholds,
The people so peculiar in renewal and comeback,
You can't laugh off their capacity to take it.
~ Carl Sandburg, from The People, Yes

The American colonists didn't have a sophisticted army when the British declared war. But they defeated the British in part by ignoring the customs of warfare: deploying snipers to hide behind trees and pick off British generals when they appeared.
The rebels successfully employed a new style of battle - snipers. In the woods, they set up snipers who were lead by the infamous drinker and gambler, Daniel Morgan. He had a very rebellious, stubborn attitude, which helped influence his sniper troops to share his ferocity.
Sounds a bit like the Ukrainians. Consider these headlines:

Ukraine has its own Daniel Morgan, a comic turned lawyer turned president: Volodymyr Zelensky, who declared, "When you attack, you will see our faces and not our spines, our faces.” He comes from sturdy stock:
His grandfather fought the German Nazis during WWII. Zelensky lost ancestral relatives at the hands of the Nazis in concentration camps. So, with this backdrop, we must understand the strength of Zelensky's resistance to Russian dominance.
All this reminds me of the Canadian and U.S. truckers. And do you recall Uncle Joe's admonition to ordinary, gun-owning citzens (the kind who might hide behind trees): Those who think they need weapons to overthrow a tyrannical government would need F-15 fighter jets and nuclear weapons.
Oh Joe, you just don't know.
