1980. CNN makes its debut.
2004. Facebook is launched.
2005. YouTube hosts its first video.
2006. Twitter sees its first tweet.
We're now at another disruptive moment. Cable news is flapping about like a fish out of water. Fox News was leading its liberal competitors in the ratings, and then it fired its most atrtactive host, Tucker Carlson, and its ratings plunged.
Tucker just waltzed over to Twitter and started doing his 10-minute monologue there. What does this mean?
Well, you no longer have to tune in to Fox at 8 p.m. to see Tucker. You can see him any time you want here. And you can comment on what you see.
And you don't have to pay to see him. You may think Fox is free, but you have to watch those interminable commercials about urinary tract infections. Moreover, you pay your cable provider for the bundle that includes Fox.
Understand that your bundle fee supports the leftist cable news outlets. Nick Nolte writes: Cable TV is a total scam and an affirmative action program for left-wing outlets that could never survive on merit (i.e., advertising revenue based on ratings). He notes:
As recently as 2016 … just over 70 percent of all households with a TV had cable or satellite TV subscriptions. Today the figure is just under 40 percent.
During the first quarter of 2023, another 2.3 million customers (or 7 percent of the total) cut the cord to traditional cable — the fastest cancel-my-subscription pace ever recorded.
The death of cable news has been predicted for a long time. Let's just see if Tucker pushes it over the edge.
"It is nice to be around people who think differently than you." ~ Tucker Carlson
